Radio DJ, Club DJ, Compiler, Label A&Rs
The most influential UK DJ extraordinaire
Raised in South London by French/Swiss parents, radio jock, club DJ,
and compiler Gilles Peterson grew up speaking French at home and
English everywhere else. At 18, Peterson began DJing around London.
He is known as the key person in creating the Acid Jazz Movement
with his label Talkin' Loud, which came to include some of
England's most innovative drum'n'bass artists like 4hero and Roni Size.
A new Label, Brownswood Recordings, was launched in 2006.
The label has discovered many new talents and produced stars like
Ben Westbeech and Jose James.
Peterson has created compilations not only for his own labels, but for Blue Note, Prestige, and Street Sounds as well, introducing popular and obscure jazz to younger generations.
At the moment, he is establishing his own music festival called WORLDWIDE FESTIVAL globally and
it has taken places in various locations such as the South of France, Singapore, England.. and so on.
This year, Peterson is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his WORLDWIDE radio program,
Now syndicated in 15 different counties.
His exclusive program for Tokyo "J-WAVE WORLDWIDE15" is now 4 years old and
this is one of the most listened to radio programs among music lovers in Tokyo.
